Capri: where luxury is everyday
Updated October 2026

An island where luxury is everyday: cliffs, the Faraglioni rock towers rising from the sea, and the Piazzetta, the main square, going quiet in the evening.
Capri at a glance
- Best time
- May, September
- Price level
- expensive
- Getting around
- no cars for visitors: buses, funicular, taxis
- Best for
- boating, views and romance
- The catch
- The most expensive place on our list, and day trippers fill the island at midday in summer. Stay overnight to see it calm.
When to go
Temperatures are average daily highs in °F and °C (WeatherSpark). Ratings are our own. $ = cheapest, $$$ = most expensive. 🔥 = heat, ★ = big event.
Who Capri is for
Capri is an island for couples, and one of our top honeymoon picks. Families and solo travelers have better options, so for them we’d suggest Capri as a day trip. It’s steep, with stairs and slopes everywhere, so skip it if walking is hard for you.
When to go
The best months are May and September. April, June, August and October are good too. Skip March, when the island is still half asleep. From November to February many hotels and services are closed.
Getting around
You reach Capri by ferry or fast boat from Naples and Sorrento. On the island you get around by bus, by funicular from Marina Grande up to town, and by taxi. From spring to early November and over Christmas, only residents’ cars are allowed on the island, and rental cars aren’t.
What Capri costs
On a budget, about $125 to $230 per person per day. In comfort or luxury, about $395 to $550. The lower number is the quiet season, the higher one peak season.
Includes your stay, food, activities and local transport, not flights. Converted at about $1.10 per euro. Estimates only.
Flights from the US and Canada
Fly into: Naples (NAP), then ferry. Typical economy fares per person, round trip. Canadian fares are in Canadian dollars. Not live prices, so always check before you book.
What Capri does best
Its strengths: boating and hiking.
Day trips
From Capri, boats take you back to the mainland for day trips along the coast.
Lemons and cliffs, and a nice break from island prices.
A direct ferry to the Amalfi Coast in summer.
Pizza and the old town.
Via Sorrento to the Roman city.
Where to eat
Breakfast and brunch
Lunch
Dinner
We picked these places from Google ratings and reviews in October 2026, and we haven’t eaten at all of them. Many Italian restaurants take reservations on WhatsApp, and a reservation only counts once they reply. The Map link opens the restaurant in Google Maps, where you’ll also find a booking button if they take online reservations. Opening hours change, so check before you go.
Food and wine
Campania on a plate: a typical four-course menu, and the wine to go with each.
Golf
There’s practically no course around Naples that works for a golf trip. The closest, Circolo Golf Napoli, is for members and US military personnel only, and Volturno Golf gets weak reviews. If golf is the point of the trip, pick Sicily, Puglia or Lake Garda.
Shopping
- An Anacapri memory: in 2019 we met sandal maker Antonio Viva, who had been making sandals in his workshop on Via Giuseppe Orlandi since 1958. You picked the sole and straps, and the sandal was built around your foot in a few minutes. Antonio died in 2023, and the workshop has since closed. The photos are from our visit.
- Handmade sandals: Capri’s best-known souvenir. There are still made-to-measure sandal workshops in both Anacapri and Capri town.
- Via Camerelle: the luxury-brand lane near the Piazzetta. 📍 Map
- Limoncello and lemon everything.

From our own photos
Capri is at its best from the sea and from above. There are boats everywhere: in summer, dozens anchor off the Faraglioni.
